Back to a more eastern European country...and i love it! Krakow is cheap, its old and its beautiful. The weather was once again rainy and cold but we still managed to do a bit.
We went on a day tour to Auschwitz & Birkenau which was an incredible, but a very sombre experience. Walking around the concentration camps, walking into an original gas chamber, seeing posessions such as toys, clothes, shoes, suitcases from prisoners, seeing bundles of hair from prisoners and knowing that each item held an identity behind it was so incredibly sad.
While Auschwitz was the main reason for going to Krakow, we also visited the castle as it was originally the royal capital. The castle is so old and beautiful...without too much reconstruction ruining it.
sadly this didnt leave much more time...but it is a place i would like to go back too. we are now back in germany for another week.

What a fantastic but sad experience to visit
ReplyDeleteAuschwitz & all it represents. You have had some amazing experiences with history during your trip. The rain would have certainly added to the sombreness.
Pleased you have found Krakow & the castle so beautiful.
